A mutual fund industry trade group will replace its flagship annual conference with a pair of new ones as part of its 2022 events schedule. They're also rebranding one of their other big, annual conferences.

The folks at the Washington, D.C.-based Investment Company Institute (
ICI) are kicking off this year's events lineup with the 2022
Investment Management Conference (IMC), which will take place March 27 to 30 in Palm Desert, California. This event was formerly known as the
Mutual Funds and Investment Management Conference (MFIMC).
For decades, the
ICI team has hosted a general membership meeting (
ICI GMM) in the spring (usually in May), but 2022 will not feature the traditional GMM. This event has been reimagined as two separate events, one for leadership and another for tech.
The ICI
Leadership Summit will follow two months after the IMC, taking place in Washington, D.C. from May 25 to 26. Panels will center around regulatory changes,
NextGen investing, and DEI initiatives, among other topics.
An ICI spokesperson writes to
MFWire, "What differentiates the Leadership Summit from other ICI conferences is that it will be located in D.C., and we're expecting policymakers and mutual fund industry leaders to attend."
"This conference will appeal to leaders of all facets of the fund industry," the spokesperson adds. "Some confirmed speakers are
David Booth, founder and executive chairman of
Dimensional Fund Advisors;
Thasunda Duckett, president and CEO of
TIAA; and
Jennifer Johnson, president and CEO of
Franklin Resources."
Later, from November 8 to 9, the ICI team will host their other new post-GMM event: the ICI
Tech Summit in Dallas, Texas.
"ICI's new Tech Summit in November will explore current and emerging technologies across all aspects of asset management," writes the ICI spokesperson.
Other ICI events taking place throughout the year include:
- 2022 Tax and Accounting Conference; Aurora, Colorado (September 18 to 21)
- 2022 IDC Fund Directors Conference; Chicago, Illinois (October 24 to 26)
- 2022 Closed-End Fund Conference; New York City (November), and
- 2022 Securities Law Conference; Washington, D.C. (Fall)
The spokesperson concludes, "We look forward to welcoming back our colleagues and providing them with fresh perspectives, as well as networking opportunities."
