Background:

Tom Hansberg launched Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based Hansberger Global Investors 1994. HGI has a fundamental, bottom-up approach and focuses on three asset classes: international equity, global equity and emerging market equity.
In 2006, Natixis Global Asset Management bought a majority stake in HGI from Hansberger and other individual investors.
As of September 30, 2011, HGI boasted about $7.4 billion in assets under advisement. Ten percent of that (i.e. about $740 million) was in the three Hansberger International Series mutual funds and 38 percent in outside mutual funds that HGI sub-advises. The rest is in institutional assets and outside managed accounts based on HGI models (but not managed by HGI). HGI has a long-term approach, with average hold times for portfolio holdings ranging from two to five years.
HGI has sub-advised pieces of mutual funds for a number of firms, including: First American, Forward, ING, MTB Investment Advisors, Natixis, Nuveen, Transamerica, Trust Fund Advisors, UBS and Vanguard. The firm boasts 60 employees, including 21 investment professionals, and has offices in Hong Kong, Moscow, Mumbai and Toronto, as well as Fort Lauderdale.
