Don Hodges and his son, Craig Hodges, co-founded Dallas-based Hodges Capital Management in 1989. Since then the fundamentals-driven stock-picking SMA shop has debuted seven mutuals with nearly $2 billion in combined assets as of January 2015.
The elder Hodges, who died in January 2015, started out selling radio advertising before making his first value stock buy, Pepsi, in 1958. He became a broker, joining Merrill Lynch and other broker-dealers before eventually rising to president of Rauscher Pierce Refines (now RBC Dain Rauscher).
