Background:

Scott Barbee founded Aegis Financial in 1994 after leaving oil-service investment-banking boutique Simmons & Company1.
He follows a contrarian investment approach and has focused Aegis on serving institutional and high net worth clients through separately managed accounts. Aegis created its mutual fund family as part of an effort to serve those clients four years later in 1998.
Barbee remains the PM for the funds. It currently offers two mutual funds: Aegis Value Fund and Aegis High Yield Fund.
Aegis Value closed to new investors in 2004 when the fund reached $750 million in AUM. The fund has since reopened to new investors.
