Al Frank Asset Management, founded in 1977, operates two mutual funds. It firm entered the mutual fund business in January 1998 with the launch of the Al Frank Fund, which targets long-term capital appreciation. In September 2004, the firm unveiled its second '40 Act offering, the Al Frank Dividend Value Fund, which shoots for long-term total return from capital appreciation and dividend income.
Chief investment officer John Buckingham has managed both funds since their inception. In December 2009, Al Frank Asset Management more than doubled its total managed assets when it acquired Innealta Portfolio Advisors, a quant shop specializing in tactically managed portfolios of ETFs.
Al Frank Asset Management is known for its Prudent Speculator newsletter. Al Frank started the newsletter in 1977 and published a book with the same title in 1989.
