  • Background:
Dodge and Cox is the paragon of a classic asset management firm that has transitioned to the 21st retail distribution model.

Dana Emery took over CEO and president of the company in May 2013 from Kenneth Olivier1. Charles Pohl is the current Chairman and CIO. Outgoing Chairman and CEO Kenneth Olivier took the role of Chairman Emeritus at that time.

Founded by Van Duyn Dodge and E. Morris Cox in 1930. The firm is known for its team-focused and value-orientated investment approach.

The firm is steadfast and sticking to investing, and only investing. It has no sales team and no marketers and does not advertise. That tradition is in part a legacy of longtime chairman Harry Hagey who retired in 2006.

From 1931 to 1965 Dodge and Cox’s only 40 Act fund was the Balanced Fund. They launched their second fund—Stock Fund—in 1965. Their third fund came along in 1989, the Income Fund. In 2001, the International Fund was launched and in 2008 the Global Fund.

As of their most recent IAPD filing they has $223 billion in discretionary AUM. 2
