Foster Friess founded Brandywine Fund with his wife Lynn in 1974.
After a string as one of the top performing growth stock funds of the 1990s, Friess transitioned to retirement by selling a 70-percent stake in the firm to Affiliated Managers Group in 2001. Friess employees bought the firm back from AMG in 2013.
