Jeremy Grantham, Richard Mayo and Eyk Van Otterloo launched Grantham, Mayo, Van Otterloo & Co. in 1977. The firm has a conservative, value-oriented investment philosophy.
In February 2009, GMO tapped former AllianceBernstein executive Marc Mayer as the company's first ever CEO. In October of that year, Arjun Divecha,vice chair and head of emerging markets equity division, took over as chairman from Grantham, who remains a board member and continues in his role as chief investment strategist. In June 2011, GMO appointed Brad Hilsabeck its new chief executive.
