  • Background:
Payden & Rygel was established in September of 1983 by Joan Payden and three associates, including Sandra Rygel, all of whom worked for Scudder, Stevens & Clark in Los Angeles. Before starting the firm, Joan Payden was the West Coast Managing Partner of Scudder, and had more than 20 years experience in the investment management industry. She used funds from her 401(k) plan to start the firm, with Ms. Rygel as the other shareholder. Rygel retired from the firm in 1992. Our business initially focused on corporate cash management, a specialty Joan Payden had developed at Scudder. Since inception, the firm's growth has been internally generated, with no reliance on outside capital.
