At the beginning of 2022, Virtus Investment Partners acquired 100 percent of Stone Harbor. The deal, first unveiled in June 2021, involves key Stone Harbor folks staying on under long-term employment agreements.
The Stone Harbor Investment Partners team traces their roots back to Salomon Brothers' asset management division, which included Jim Craige and division leader Peter Wilby (now co-CIOs of Stone Harbor). The team stayed on after Salomon was bought by Travelers, which became part of Citigroup. In 2006, the team spun out of Citi and created Stone Harbor.
Gotham-based Stone Harbor's team specializes in fixed income asset management, with a particular focus on emerging markets debt. They mostly work with institutional clients, though they also offer open-end and closed-end mutual funds.
