Garrett Thornburg founded Santa Fe, New Mexico-based Thornburg Investment Management in 1982. Today, the employee-owned firm manages seven equity funds and nine bond funds.
The most recent addition to the fund family is theThornburg Developing World Fund, which was launched in December 2009.
Garrett Thornburg currently serves as chairman of Thornburg, having relinquished the CEO and CIO titles to Brian McMahon in January 2008. McMahon has been with Thornburg since 1984, and has served as president of the firm since 1997.
Awards
Morningstar named Thornburg portfolio manager Bill Fries International-Stock Fund Manager of the Year for 2003 for his work with the Thornburg International Value Fund. In October 2009, Fries stepped down from managing the Thornburg Value Fund, which he had managed since its inception in 1995, but he stayed on as co-manager of the International fund.
