Background:
|
Van Eck has been on the frontiers of the mutual fund industry since its founding. Van Eck Global traces its origins to 1955, when John C. van Eck founded International Investors Inc., which would later become the Van Eck Associates Corporation.
In 1968, Van Eck created the first US gold fund. It claims to have created the first long "hard assets" fund in 1984. The firm launched its first global bond fund in 1987.
It also offers a fund in Russia focusing on Eastern and Central European companies, as well as the first gold shares exchange-traded fund in the US in 2006.
Today, Van Eck Global offers exchange-traded funds, separate accounts and alternative investments in addition to mutual funds, and invests in hard assets, emerging markets, precious metals such as gold, and various other assets.
The company remains in the hands of the van Eck family, with Jan F. van Eck acting as the Principal and Director of the Van Eck Associates Corporation, heading alternative, international and institutional businesses for Van Eck, including the Market Vectors ETF businesses which debuted in 2006, and Derek S. van Eck serving as the lead investment team member of the Global Hard Assets Fund with additional oversight of the fund's investment process, risk controls, and hiring of new investment team members.
