Advisors Asset Management (AAM), based near Colorado Springs, is a multi-manager fund firm and a subsidiary of Sun Life's SLC Management.
AAM's story begins in 1979, with the founding of Fixed Income Securities (FIS); it rebranded as AAM in 2008. Over the years, they've expanded their product suite to include SMAs (added in 2003), UITs (added in 2004), structured products (2006), mutual funds (2012), and ETFs (2017).
In 2023, publicly traded Canadian insurer Sun Life Financial Inc. bought a 51 percent stake in AAM, as planned, and transformed AAM into the U.S. retail distribution arm of SLC Management, Sun Life's institutional fixed income and alternatives asset manager. That deal made AAM a sibling to another U.S. fund firm, MFS. And the deal also gives Sun Life the option to buy up the rest of the shares of AAM starting in 2028.
