Bill Donoghue, a journalist focused on the money market mutual fund business, founded W E Donoghue & Co (WEDCO) in 1986. The firm specializes in what it pitches as "defensive tactical asset management.
WEDCO offers the Power family of mutual funds. Though the firm started out with a direct-to-retail distribution focus, they now focus on selling through advisors, especially those affiliated with independent broker-dealers or RIAs.
In 2016 Donoghue sold his 60-percent stake in Norwood, Massachusetts-based WEDCO to David Minella's new private equity shop, Naples, FloridaMinella Capital Management. Six members of WEDCO's own management team now own stakes in the fund firm.
