Background:

Founded in April 2008, Angel Oak Capital Partners now has over $4 billion in assets under management, primarily in non-agency residential mortgage-backed securities and structured finance products.
The firm launched its first hedge fund, the Structured Credit Opportunity Fund (SCOF)- Series A in May 2008. After opening two more funds, Angel Oak Capital Advisors, LLC was formed as an SEC Registered Investment Advisor in October 2009. Angel Oak Capital Advisors advises the Angel Oak Multi-Strategy Income Fund, a mutual fund.
The mutual fund now has nearly $3 billion in assets under management.
The firm's investing strategies center around total return focus, income driven and risk-focused themes.
The total-return focus aims at top-down value-based analysis of dislocations in the debt market, selecting income-producing securities that may be out of favor and offer the potential for appreciation.
Within the income-driven theme, Angel's managers try to select securities with attractive, stable and predictable income streams.
And in the risk-focused area, they conduct in-depth credit analyses, looking for securities with strong underlying assets of good quality, mixing fixed and floating rate assets to maintain effective durations. They look for opportunities to generate strong performance in rising rate environments.
Former TCW Funds president and chief executive Charles Baldiswieler joined Angel as president at the end of 2013.
Fellow TCW alum Erlend Bo joined Angel as a managing director responsible for sales strategy and distribution in February 2014.
Its total AUM as of March 31, 2017 is $6 billion.
