In 2021, a private equity firm, Altamont Capital Partners, invested in Horizon Investments, becoming its majority owner.
The team at Horizon Investments describes the firm as a "goals-based investment strategist." That goals-based approach (framed around three stages of investing: gain, protect, and spend) guides Horizon's various strategies.
Founded by Robbie Cannon in 1995 as a quant RIA, Horizon is an ETF strategist, building portfolios out of ETFs, yet they also use other building blocks, and some of their strategies are packaged in mutual fund form. (Cannon stepped back when Altamont bought Horizon in 2021.)
