News summary by MFWire's editors

Large blend mutual funds that have taken a byte from the Apple are catching the attention of Morningstar's mutual fund analysts. Dan Culloton focuses on his picks from among large blend mutual funds for his Fund Favorites and Red Flags column.

Mairs & Powers Growth [profile] and Oakmark Select [profile] are two of the funds without significant stakes in Apple shares that make his cut of "picked" funds. Otherwise...
Nearly all large blend funds that finished those time spans in the category's top quartile owned at least some Apple -- most kept 3% to 6% of assets there. Bottom-quartile funds in both periods had little or no Apple.
American Funds [profile], Federated (Clipper) [profile], Davis Funds [profile], FMI [profile], Longleaf Partners [profile], Selected American, Sequoia [profile] and Weitz Partners [profile] all have mutual funds on the list.
