The fifth most powerful woman in the world runs a giant mutual fund firm here in the U.S., according to a newly published list.

Abby Johnson, chairman and CEO of Fidelity Investments [profile], holds the #5 spot on Forbes' just-released list of the "World's 100 Most Powerful Women." Only two heads of state, the IMF chief, and the CEO of GM outrank Johnson on the new list. (She also tops the "Most Powerful Women In Finance" sub-list.

Another U.S. asset management chief, J.P. Morgan Asset Management [profile] CEO Mary Callahan, ranks 33rd on the overall list and sixth on the finance list.
