On April 30, 2021 Macquarie Asset Management closed on its planned acquisition of Waddell & Reed. MAM promptly sold off Waddell's B-D (also as planned) while hanging onto its asset management business, home of the Ivy Funds.
In 2017, Macquarie rebranded Delaware Investments as Macquarie Investment Management.
The predecessor to Delaware Investments was founded in 1929 and the firm launched its first mutual fund in 1938. Delaware Investment Advisors, the firm's advisory arm, is also known as DIA.
Lincoln Financial Group
In 1995, then Delaware Management CEO Wayne Stork led negotiations to sell the firm to Lincoln National Corporation, the Fort Wayne, Indiana, financial services company. After the sale Delaware continued to operate under its own branding and maintained its headquarters in Philadelphia.
Stork retired as CEO and CIO of Delaware Management in 1999 and was succeeded by Jeffrey J. Nick.
In 2007, The firm launched its initial Ireland-based UCITS funds.
Macquarie Group
On August 19, 2009, Australian-headquartered Macquarie Group entered into an agreement to purchase Delaware Investments from Lincoln Financial for $428 million. At the time, Delaware claimed assets under management of more than $125 billion.
Macquarie completed the acquisition on January 4, 2010 for $451.8 million in cash, subject to customary post-closing adjustments.
Delaware is now branded as "Delaware Investments, a member of Macquarie Group."
Delaware president Shawn Lytle and his management team run Delaware. Lytle reports to Ben Bruck, chairman of Delaware and global head of Macquarie Investment Management. Bruck has moved to Philadelphia.
