Nearly one quarter of the most powerful women in finance are in asset management, according to the folks at a banking-focused trade publication.

Yesterday, Arizent's American Banker team released their 2023 list of the 25 "Most Powerful Women In Finance." The list includes six familiar fundster executives, plus a couple of chiefs of firms with subsidiaries in the business.

Mary Callahan Erdoes, CEO of asset and wealth management at J.P. Morgan Chase, is the number one person on the list, again. Other fundster winners this year include:

Abby Johnson, chair and CEO of Fidelity Investments, at number two again;

Jenny Johnson, president and CEO of Franklin Templeton, at number four (up from 16 last year);

Suni Harford, president of UBS Asset Management, at number six (up from 12);

Hanneke Smits, CEO of BNY Mellon Investment Management, at number eight; and

Samara Cohen, senior managing director and chief investment officer of ETF and index investments at BlackRock, at number 21.

The chiefs of the parents of Nuveen and Bridge Builder also made the new list.

Meanwhile, another fundster, Lori Heinel, global chief investment officer of SSGA, came in at number two on another new, 25-person America Banker list: the Most Powerful Women to Watch. And the American Banker team also release a list of the Most Powerful Women in Banking. The latter's inaugural list debuted in 2002, while the inaugural Most Powerful Women In Finance list debuted in 2008.
