The Investment Company Institute's (
ICI's) 60th General Membership Meeting (GMM)
continues at the Washington Hilton with a full day of
sessions today, featuring a host of fundster chiefs. The 2018
ICI GMM began yesterday afternoon with several main stage sessions, including a
speech from Morgan Stanley's chief.
Interactive breakfast discussions are already underway, featuring:
David Lamb, senior vice president of product and market analytics at
Nuveen Securities, addressing "Closed-End Fund Matters";
Gregory Barton, chief legal officer at
WisdomTree, addressing "The ETF Marketplace";
Brian Moran, managing director and head of national accounts and retirement at
AMG Funds, addressing "Critical Decisions Facing Distribution Leaders"; and
Dan Waters, managing director of ICI Global, addressing "Opportunities and Challenges Facing Global Fund Managers." There's also a breakfast buffet in the exhibit hall.
Today's main sessions will begin with a brief address from
Ted Truscott, chairman of the ICI and CEO of
Columbia Threadneedle.
Next up, New York Life Investment Management (
NYLIM) CEO
Yie-Hin Hung will moderate a "Facing the Future: Fresh Perspectives" panel. Panelists scheduled to appear include:
Jillian DelSignore, head of ETF distribution at
J.P. Morgan;
Kirk Moore, head of global research at Columbia Threadneedle; and
Matthew O'Connor, president of
Capital Group's American Funds Distributors.
Later this morning,
Charles Schwab Investment Management president and CEO
Marie Chandoha will moderate a panel titled "Investing Today: Insights, Risks, and More." The panel is expected to include:
Rupal Bhansali, chief investment officer of international and global equities at
Ariel;
Sarah Ketterer, CEO and cofounder of
Causeway Capital Managmeent; and
Teresa Kong, PM at
Matthews Asia.
During the pre-lunch break, authors
Jon Meacham and
Amy Herman will be signing books, while
BNP Paribas' Georg Lasch will give a legal forum presentation on "How ESG is Shaping the Future of New Fund Launches Globally." Then Meacham will deliver the
Citi-sponsored luncheon address, followed by a Q&A with ICI chief
Paul Schott Stevens.
This afternoon,
Invesco president and CEO
Marty Flanagan will moderate a panel on "Cross-Border Challenges and the Global Convergence of Regulatory Matters." Panelists are expected to include:
David Hunt, president and CEO of
PGIM;
David Semaya, executive advisor to
Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Asset Management; and
Andreas Utermann, CEO of
Allianz Global Investors.
Chad Renfro, head of enterprise cybersecurity at
Fidelity, will wrap up today's main sessions with a speech on "Cybersecurity Concerns: How to Protect Fund Shareholders."
The end of day reception, sponsored by J.P. Morgan, will feature two more legal forum presentations:
Goodwin Procter's Paul Delligatti and
Michael Isenman will discuss "The Annual Contract Review Process," and
Llinks Law Offices' Sandra Lu will discuss "How the Global Asset Manager Conducts Asset Management Business in China Under the New Opening Up Policies."
Then fundsters will trek offsite tonight for the GMM dinner reception, sponsored by
Dechert and PGIM Investments, at the Smithsonian Institutional National Museum of African American History and Culture." Buses will pick up GMM attendees at the hotel.
