Tonight the Kansas City, Missouri-based Mutual Fund Education Alliance (MFEA) will hold its 2016 STAR Awards celebration and dinner at the Mid America Club in downtown Chicago. And before that, fundsters will gather at the club this morning for the MFEA's Marketing Council conference.

Meanwhile, today in Boston the Money Management Institute (MMI) is kicking off its two-day Fall Solutions Conferece at the Westin Copley Place in Boston.

The awards, sponsored by IMPRINT, honor firms of various sizes for "excellence in fund marketing communications" to retail investors, advisors, retirement plan participants, and retirement plan sponsors. Firms are also recognized for their community service contributions. And this year, for the first time, MFEA will give award nominees an "evaluation scorecard" with feedback on their submissions.

The marketing council, sponsored by new industry marketing/distribution/PR agency Sondhelm Partners, will feature a number of industry speakers and panelists, including: Scott Burns, global head of asset management solutions at Morningstar; Henry Detering, managing director at Lazard Asset Management [profile]; Bill Finnegan, chief marketing officer of AMG Funds [profile] and chair of the MFEA marketing council; Anu Heda, partner at Naissance; Kimber Lintz, director of the MFEA; Gretchen Luebke, senior director and head of marketing operations at Janus [profile]; David Master, chief marketing officer at Janus; Dorit Murciano, senior vice president and financial services practice leader at Merrill Corporation; Andrew Seibert, managing partner at IMPRINT; Kirti Srikant, head of brand and advertising at OppenheimerFunds [profile]; Stephen Wendel, head of behavioral science at Morningstar; and Chrystal Williams, head of digital and print marketing at Invesco [profile].

At MMI, featured speakers scheduled to take the stage include: Peter Chiang, principal at A.T. Kearney; Brendan Clark, president of Clark Capital Management Group; Tim Clift, executive vice president and chief investment strategist at Envestnet; Gary DeMoss, director of Invesco Consulting [profile]; Michael Foy, director of the wealth management practice at JD Power; Brennan Hawken, senior equity research analyst at UBS Investment Bank; Mike Keenan, senior managing director of national accounts at MFS Investment Management [profile]; Patty Loepker, head of research directed advisory programs at Wells Fargo Advisors and co-chair of the conference; Jill Mavro, head of the strategic relationship group at State Street Global Advisors (SSgA [profile]) and co-chair of the conference; Bailey McCann, financial journalist and author; Tom Morelli, vice president and head of broker-dealer at T. Rowe Price [profile]; Ron O'Hanley, president and CEO of SSgA; Roger Paradiso, head of alternative distribution strategies at Legg Mason [profile]; Craig Pfeiffer, president and CEO of MMI; Jason Schwartz, president of Wilshire Funds Management [profile]; Uday Singh, partner at A.T.
